Rio 2016 Predictions

With the Rio 2016 Rio games one week from today I am going to make a few predictions. Lets start with the total medal count.

The USA will win 43 gold, 27 silver and 28 bronze for a total of 98
China will win 36 gold, 29 silver and 27 bronze for a total of 92
Great Britain will win 19 gold, 17 silver and 18 bronze for a total of 54
Germany will win 16 gold, 17 silver and 19 bronze for a total of 52
Russia will win 18 gold, 16 silver and 15 bronze for a total of 49
Brazil will win 10 gold, 11 silver and 5 bronze for a total of 26

Russia has had their entire track and field and weightlifting team banned from the games. Over 100 Russian athletes have been banned from the games. This reflects in the low total of predicted medals won for Russia. Don't be surprised if Russia's total is even lower than the 49 medals won I predicted. A clean Russian team means fewer medals won for Russia in the Rio games. The USA and China lead the pack in medals won with Great Britain and Germany next. Brazil will have a record medal haul of 26 medals won.

USA swimmer Katie Ledecky will win gold in every event she is entered in, Michael Phelps will win 4 gold medals, the USA swim team will win at least 28 total medals. Other USA swimming medalists will be Maya DiRado, Ryan Lochte, Missy Franklin, Elizabeth Beisel, Nathan Adrian and Allison Schmitt.

In Beach Volleyball, the USA will win at least a silver medal on the women's side led by Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross. On the men's side. Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena will win at least a silver medal. Casey Patterson and Jake Gibb will win bronze for the USA. Brazil's beach volleyball teams, both men's and women's are very good and possible gold medal contenders.

In indoor Volleyball, the USA women's team will win gold over Brazil in 5 sets. The USA men's team will win a bronze medal. Brazil again will be the USA's top rival.

In Track and Field, the USA will win at least 27 total medals. Allyson Felix will win gold in the women's 400, Justin Gatlin will win silver in the men's 100 with a time of 9.79 seconds, Usain Bolt of Jamaica will win gold with a time of 9.76 seconds.
In the men's 200, Usain Bolt of Jamaica will win gold with a time of 19.63 seconds, LaShawn Merritt of the USA will win silver with a time of 19.72 seconds and Justin Gatlin of the USA will win bronze with a time of 19.76 seconds.
Ashton Eaton of the USA will win gold in the decathlon, Tori Bowie of the USA will win gold in the women's 100 with a time of 10.74 seconds. Tori Bowie will also win gold in the women's 200 with a time of 21.78 seconds. The USA will win silver in the men's 4 by 100 relay, but the USA women will win gold in the 4 by 100 relay. The USA 4 by 400 relay teams for men and women will win gold.

The USA will win gold in men's and women's basketball and women's soccer. The USA women's gymnastics team will win gold. Simone Biles will win gold in all around. Simone Biles, Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas will medal in Individual events. The USA men's gymnastics team will win team bronze.
