Day 2 - July 23- late, July 24 & part of July 25









The USA women's water polo team defeated Japan 25-4. Maggie Steffens and Stephanie Haralabidis led USA with 5 goals each and Maddie Musselman and Aria Fischer each had 4 goals.

The USA women's softball team beat Mexico 2-0. Cat Osterman picked up her 2nd win. Monica Abbott picked up the save.

The USA women's soccer team defeated New Zealand 6-1 in Group G.  The USA had 4 offsides calls in the first half. Goals were scored by Rose Lavelle, Lindsey Horan, Christen Press, Alex Morgan and 2 goals were scored by New Zealand (own goal)  by Abby Erceg and CJ Bott. The USA next match is against Australia on July 27.

The USA men's volleyball team beat France in the preliminary round(Pool B) 3-0, 25-18, 25-18, 25-22. 

The USA men's beach volleyball team of Nick Lucena/Phil Dalhausser lost to Alexander Brouwer/Robert Meeuwsen of the Netherlands 0-2, 17-21. 18-21.

In men's gymnastics, the USA finished 4th and did qualify for the team event finals with 256.761 points. Japan was first with 262.251 points. China finished second with 262.061 points and ROC finished 3rd with 261.945 points. Yul Moldauer qualified for the event finals on the Floor Exercise. Brody Malone qualified for the event finals on the Horizontal Bar, Sam Mikulak qualified for the event finals on the Parallel Bars, Alec Yoder qualified for the event finals on the Pommel Horse,  Brody Malone and Sam Mikulak both qualified for the All Around competition.

In women's swimming, Americans Emma Weyant and Haili Flickinger both qualify for the 400IM finals. Also the USA has qualified for the finals of the 4 by 100 Freestyle Relay.  Americans Torri Huske and Claire Curzan both qualified for the semifinals of the 100 Butterfly. 

In men's swimming, Americans Michael Andrew and Andrew Wilson both qualified for the semifinals of the men's 100 breaststroke. Kieran Smith and Jake Mitchell, both of the USA, qualified for the 400 freestyle finals.

The USA beach volleyball team of April Ross/Alix Klineman beat Xue/Wang of China 2-0, 21-17, 21-19.

Chase Kalisz(4 minutes 9.42 seconds) and Jay Litherland (4 minutes 10. 28 seconds), both of the USA, win gold and silver respectively in the men's 400IM. Brendon Smith of Australia wins bronze with a time of 4 minutes 10.38 seconds.

Torri Huske of the USA advanced to the finals of the women's 100 butterfly.

Kieran Smith of the USA wins bronze in the men's 400 freestyle in a time of 3 minutes 43.94 seconds. Ahmed Hafnaoui of Tunisia wins gold in a time of 3 minutes 43.36 seconds. Jack McLoughin of Australia wins silver with a time of 3 minutes 43.52 seconds.

Emma Weyant (4 minutes 32.76 seconds) and Haili Flickinger (4 minutes 34.90 seconds) win silver and bronze respectively. Ohashi Yui of Japan wins gold in 4 minutes 32.08 seconds.

Michael Andrew and Andrew Wilson, both of the USA, advance to the finals of the men's 100 breaststroke.

The USA 4 by 100 freestyle relay team of Erika Brown, Abbey Weitzeil, Natalie Hinds and Simone Manuel win bronze in a time of 3 minutes 32.81 seconds. Australia wins gold and Canada wins silver.

The USA softball team beat Australia 2-1. Monica Abbott got the win. The USA will face Japan next on  Monday, July 26.
