In women's beach volleyball, the USA team of Lauren Fendrick/Brooke Sweat lost to Kolosinska/Brzostek of Poland 21-13, 13-21, 7-15.

Olivia Smoliga and Kathleen Baker, both of the USA, advance to the semifinals of the women's 100 backstroke.

Conor Dwyer and Townley Haas, both of the USA, advanced to the semifinals of the men's 200 freestyle.

Lilly King and Katie Meili, both of the USA, advanced to the semifinals of the women's 100 breaststroke.

Ryan Murphy and David Plummer, both of the USA, advanced to the semifinals of the men's 100 backstroke.

Katie Ledecky and Leah Smith, both of the USA, advanced to the finals of the women's 400 freestyle.

The USA advanced to the finals of the men's 4 by 100 freestyle relay.

The USA women's basketball team beat Senegal 121-56. It was the largest margin of victory for the USA in the Olympic history. Breanna Stewart, Sylvia Fowles and Diana Taurasi each had 15 points to lead team USA.

The USA men's beach volleyball team of Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena beat Naceur/Belhaj of Tunisia 21-7, 21-12.

The USA men's volleyball team lost to Canada, 3-0, 23-25, 17-25, 23-25.

USA men's fencer Alexander Massialas wins silver in the men's Individual foil.

Corey Cogdell of the USA wins bronze in women's trap shooting.

Dana Vollmer of the USA wins bronze in the women's 100 butterfly in 56.63 seconds. Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden wins gold in 55.48 seconds. Penny Oleksiak of Canada wins silver in 56.46 seconds.

Katie Ledecky and Leah Smith, both of the USA, win gold and bronze respectively in the women's 400 freestyle. Jasmin Carlin of Canada wins silver. Katie Ledecky sets a new world record in 3 minutes 46.56 seconds.

The USA women's gymnastics team qualified for Tuesday's finals with a combined score of 185.238. China was second with a score of 175.279. Simone Biles and Aly Raisman qualify for All Around finals.
