USA women's Olympic soccer/ Rio 2016 updates

The USA women's Olympic soccer team beat New Zealand 2-0. USA Goals were scored by Carli Lloyd and Alex Morgan.

Swimmer Michael Phelps will be the USA flagbearer at the opening ceremony in Rio on Friday evening.

USA women's gymnast Laurie Hernandez is turning professional and will compete at the elite level for the next four years. Hernandez will not be competing at the University of Florida this fall.

The IOC annual session is being held in Rio before the games start. The IOC approved five new sports to be included at the 2020 summer games in Toyko. The sports approved by the IOC are: baseball/softball, karate, skateboarding, surfing and sports climbing. This will add 18 events and 474 athletes to the 2020 games. The games will expand to almost 11,000 athletes in 2020.
