Nathan Adrian and Anthony Ervin, both of the USA, advance to the semifinals of the men's 50 freestyle.

Katie Ledecky and Leah Smith, both of the USA, advance to the finals of the women's 800 freestyle. Ledecky set a new Olympic record with a time of 8 minutes 12.86 seconds.

Michael Phelps and Tom Shields, both of the USA, advance to the semifinals of the men's 100 butterfly.

Missy Frankin and Maya DiRado, both of the USA, advance to the semifinals of the semifinals of the women's 200 backstroke.

The USA women's beach volleyball team of Lauren Fendrick/Brooke Sweat lost to Birlova/Ukolova of Russia 18-21, 26-24, 13-15.

The USA men's beach volleyball team of Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena beat Nicolai/Lupo in a great match, 21-13, 17-21, 24-22.

Simone Biles and Aly Raisman, both of the USA, win gold and silver respectively in the women's all-around gymnastics competition. Aliya Mustafina of Russia wins bronze.
Simone Biles scored 15.866 on the vault, 14.966 on the uneven bars, 15.433 on the balance beam and 15.933 on the floor exercise for a total of 62.198 points.
Aly Raisman scored a 15.633 on the vault, 14.166 on the uneven bars, 14.866 on the balance beam and 15.433 on the floor exercise for a total of 60.098 points.
Aliya Mustafina scored a 15.200 on the vault, 15.666 on the uneven bars, 13.866 on the balance beam and 13.933 on the floor exercise for a total of 58.665 points.

Kayla Harrison of the USA wins gold in women's judo 78kg, beating Audrey Tcheumeo of France 100- 0S2.

No Americans were in the Finals of the women's 200 breaststroke.

Missy Franklin and Maya DiRado, both of the USA, advance to the semifinals of the women's 200 backstroke.

USA swimmer Ryan Murphy wins gold in the men's 200 backstroke in 1 minute 53.62 seconds. Mitch Larkin of Great Britain wins silver in 1 minute 53.96 seconds. Evgeny Rylov of Russia wins bronze in 1 minute 53.97 seconds.

Michael Phelps of the USA wins gold in the men's 200IM in 1 minute 54.66 seconds. Kosuke Hagino of Japan wins silver in 1 minute 56.61 seconds. Shun Wang of China wins bronze in 1 minute 57.05 seconds. American Ryan Lochte finished 5th in 1 minute 57.47 seconds.

Simone Manuel of the USA wins gold in the women's 100 freestyle in 52.70 seconds. Penny Oleksiak of Canada also wins gold in a identical time of 52.70 seconds. Sara Sjostrom of Sweden wins silver in 52.99 seconds.
