The USA women's volleyball team lost to ROC 3-0, 20-25, 12-25, 19-25. USA volleyball star Jordan Thompson left the match in the first set with an ankle injury. The USA is 3-1 in pool play. The USA has advanced to the quarterfinals and will next play Italy. 

The USA men's water polo team lost to Hungary 10-8. Alex Bowen and Ben Hallock had 2 goals each to lead team USA. the USA is 2-2 in pool play. 

Krysta Palmer (5th- 316.65 points) and Hailey Hernandez (10th- 291.60 points), both of the USA, advance to the 3M springboard finals.

The USA men's basketball team beat the Czech Republic 119-84. The USA led 47-43 at halftime and in the second half cruised to the win. Jayson Tatum led team USA with 27 points. Kevin Durant added 23 points and Zach Lavine scored 13 points for team USA.

Americans Brian Burrows and Madelyn Bernau win bronze in mixed team trap shooting final range. Spain wins gold and San Marino wins silver.

The USA triathlon mixed relay team of Katie Zaferes, Kevin McDowell, Taylor Knibb and Morgan Pearson wins silver in 1 hour 23 minutes and 55 seconds. Great Britain wins gold in 1 hour 23 minutes and 41 seconds and France wins bronze in 1 hour 24 minutes and 4 seconds.

In track and field, Juvaughn Harrison of the USA advanced to the men's long jump finals. American Marquis Dendy did not qualify for the finals.

Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria was ruled ineligible to continue in the women's 100 semifinals. Okagbare was disqualified from further Tokyo Olympics 100M running because of a positive human growth hormone test on July 19. Okagbare will no longer be able to compete at the Tokyo games.

American Teahna Daniels advanced to the women's 100 finals. 

Fred Kerley, Ronnie Baker and Trayvon Bromell, all of the USA, advanced to the men's 100 semifinals.

Athing Mu and Raevyn Rogers, both of the USA, advanced to the women's 800 finals. American Ajee Wilson did not advance to the finals.

The USA mixed 4 by 400 relay team of Trevor Stewart, Kendall Ellis, Kaylin Whitney and Vernon Norwood win bronze in 3 minutes 10.22 seconds. Poland wins gold in 3 minutes 9.87 seconds and the Dominican Republic wins silver in 3 minutes 10.21 seconds.

Teahna Daniels of the USA finished 7th(11.02 seconds) in the women's 100M dash. Elaine Thompson Herah of Jamaica wins gold in an Olympic record 10.61 seconds. Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce of Jamaica wins silver in 10.74 seconds and Shericka Jackson of Jamaica wins bronze in 10.76 seconds.

The USA baseball team beat South Korea 4-2. Nick Martinez got the win, David Robertson got the save. 

The USA women's beach volleyball team of Sarah Sponcil/Kelly Claes lost to Wilkerson/Bansley of Canada 2-1, 24-22, 18-21, 13-15 in the round of 16.. There was a controversial challenge call by the referee near the end of the second set. First the challenge was won by the USA, then it was changed to Canada winning the challenge on an in out call. First it was ruled in, then out with 2 challenges resulting in 2 different outcomes. Sponcil/Claes are eliminated. 

Caeleb Dressel of the USA wins gold (21.07 seconds- Olympic Record) in the 50M freestyle. Floresnt Manaudou of France wins silver in 21.55 seconds and Bruno Fratus of Brazil wins bronze in 21.57 seconds.

Robert Finke of the USA wins gold (14 minutes 39.65 seconds) in the men's 1500 freestyle. Mykhailo Romanchuk of Ukraine wins silver in 14 minutes 40.66 seconds. Florian Wellbrock of Germany wins bronze in 14 minutes 40.91 seconds.

The USA women's 4 by 100 medley relay team of Regan Smith, Lydia Jacoby, Torri Huske and Abbey Wetzeil win silver (3 minutes 51.73 seconds). Australia wins gold in 3 minutes 51.60 seconds and Canada wins bronze in 3 minutes 52.60 seconds.
