The USA women's volleyball team beat Italy 3-2, 21-25, 25-16, 25-27, 25-16, 15-12. The USA finished Pool B with a 3-1 record heading into the quarterfinals.

The USA women's basketball team beat France 93-82. The USA led 50-44 at halftime. A'ja Wilson led team USA with 22 points followed by Breanna Stewart with 17 points and Tina Charles had 15 points for team USA.

Andrew Capobianco (17th place - 385.50 points) of the USA advanced to the men's 3M springboard diving semifinals.  Only the top 18 divers qualify for the semifinals. Tyler Downs of the USA (23rd place - 348.70 points) did not advance to the semifinals.

Simone Biles of the USA has decided to compete in Tuesday August 3, women's gymnastics balance beam event finals.

The USA women's soccer team lost to Canada in the semifinals 1-0. Canadian Jessie Fleming scored the only goal on a penalty kick in the 74th minute. The penalty was given to Tierna Davidson of the USA. USA goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher had to leave the match in the 30th minute due to a knee injury and was replaced by Adrianna French. The USA will now face Australia again on Thursday August 5 in the bronze medal match.

American Jade Carey wins gold (14.366 score) on the vault at the women's gymnastics event finals. Vanessa Ferrari of Italy wins silver with a 14.200 score and Mai Murakami of Japan/Angelina Melnikova of ROC tied for bronze with a score of 14.166.

Katie Nageotte and Morgan LeLeux, both of the USA, advanced to the women's pole vault finals. American Sandi Morris had her pole break during a pole vault attempt and suffered an injury which prevented her from advancing to the finals.

Gabby Thomas of the USA advanced to the women's 200M finals.

Valarie Allman of the USA wins gold in the women's discus with a throw of 226 Ft. 4 in. Kristin Pudenz of Germany wins silver and Yaime Perez of Cuba wins bronze. 

Michael Cherry and Michael Norman, both of the USA, advanced to the men's 400 finals.

Anna Cockrell, Dalilah Muhammad and Sydney McLaughlin, all of the USA, advanced to the women's 400 hurdles finals.

American's Karissa Schweizer finished 11th and Elise Cranny finished 13th in the women's 5000M finals.

The USA baseball team lost to Japan 7-6. Edwin Jackson was the losing pitcher for team USA.

USA wrestler Adeline Gray wins silver in losing to Aline Rotter Focken of Germany 7-3 in the women's freestyle 76kg. Rotter Focken wins gold.

The USA men's water polo team lost to Greece 14-5. Alex Obert scored 2 goals to lead team USA. The USA will advance to the next rounds despite the loss.

American Sarah Robles wins bronze in women's weightlifting 87kg class. Wenwen Li of China wins gold and Emily Jade Campbell of Great Britain wins silver. 

The USA beach volleyball team of Alex Klineman/April Ross beat Ludwig/Korzuch of Germany 2-0, 21-19, 21-19 to advance to the semifinals.

Will Claye and Donald Scott, both of the USA, advanced to the men's triple jump finals.

Cole Hocker and Matthew Centrowitz, both of the USA, advanced to the men's 1500 semifinals.

Quanera Hayes, Allyson Felix and Wadeline Jonathas, all of the USA, advanced to the women's 400  semifinals.

American Maggie Malone advanced to the women's Javelin throw finals.

Erriyon Knighton, Kenny Bednarek and Noah Lyles, all of the USA, advanced to the men's 200 semifinals.

American Andrew Capobianco (10th place - 419.60 points) of the USA advanced to the men's 3M Springboard diving finals. 

American Brittney Reese wins silver (22 Ft. 9 in) in the women's long jump. Malaika Mihambo of Germany wins gold jumping 22 Ft. 11 1/4 in. and Ese Blume wins bronze with a jump of 22 Ft. 9 in.

Rai Benjamin of the USA wins silver (46.17 seconds) in the men's 400 hurdles. Karsten Warholm of Norway wins gold and sets a world record of 45.94 seconds. Alison dos Santos of Brazil wins bronze in 46.72 seconds.

Bernard Lagat and Paul Kipkemoi Chelimo, both of the USA, advance to the finals of the men's 5000. Hassan Mead of the USA did not advance to the final.

Ajee Wilson and Kate Grace, both of the USA, advance to the semifinals of the women's 800. Chrishuna Williams of the USA did not advance to the finals.

Evan Jager of the USA wins silver in the men's 3000 steeplechase in 8 minutes 4.28 seconds. Conseslus Kipruto wins gold in 8 minutes 3.28 seconds. Mahiedine Mekhissi of France wins bronze in 8 minutes 11.52 seconds.

The USA men's volleyball team beat Poland 3-0, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20, to move on to the semifinals.

Jessica Parratto 3rd (346.80)and Katrina Young 12th (313.85), both of the USA, advance to the semifinals of the women's 10M platform diving competition.

The USA men's basketball team beat Argentina after a slow start 105-78. The USA led Argentina 56-40 at halftime after trailing early in the first quarter 19-9. Kevin Durant led team USA with 27 points while Paul George had 17. The USA advances to the semifinals.

Brianna Rollins, Nia Ali and Kristi Castlin, all of the USA, advance to the finals of the women's 100 hurdles.

Lashawn Merritt of the USA advances to the men's 200 finals. Justin Gatlin and Ameer Webb, both of the USA, do not advance to the finals.

Tianna Bartoletta (23 ft 61/4 in) of the USA wins gold in the women's long jump. Brittney Reese(23 ft 5 1/2 in) of the USA wins silver. Ivana Spanovic(23 ft 2 3/4 in) of Serbia wins bronze.

Ashton Eaton of the USA leads the decathlon after 5 events with 4621 points.

Tori Bowie of the USA wins bronze in the women's 200 in 22.15 seconds. Elaine Thompson of Jamaica wins gold in 21.78 seconds. Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands wins silver in 21.88 seconds.

The USA sweeps the medals in the women's 100 hurdles. Brianna Rollins wins gold in 12.48 seconds. Nia Ali wins silver in 12.59 seconds. Kristi Castlin wins bronze in 12.61 seconds.

The USA women's beach volleyball team of Kerri Walsh Jennings/April Ross win bronze by beating Larissa/Talita of Brazil 17-21, 21-17, 15-9. Ludwig/Walkenhorst of Germany wins gold by beating Agatha/Barbara of Brazil 21-18, 21-14. Brazil wins silver.

Day 13






Brad Walker of the USA advances to the finals of the men's pole vault.

All 3 Americans, Lopez Lomong, Bernard Lagat and Galen Rupp advances to the finals of the men's 5000M.

All 3 Americans, Alysia Montano, Alice Schmidt and Geena Gall advances to the semifinals of the women's 800M.

Jason Richardson and Aries Merritt, both of the USA, advances to the finals of the men's 110 hurdles.

Morgan Uceny and Shannon Rowbury, both of the USA, advances to the finals of the women's 1500M.

The USA men's volleyball team was eliminated in the quarterfinals, losing to Italy 3-0, 26-28, 20-25 and 20-25.

The USA men's water polo team lost to Serbia 8-2.

Wallace Spearmon, Jr. of the USA advances to the finals of the men's 200M.

Americans Brittney Reese and Janay Deloach win gold and bronze respectively in the women's long jump. Elena Sokolova of Russia wins silver.

Lashinda Demus of the USA wins silver in the women's 400M hurdles final. Natalya Antyukh of Russia wins gold. Zuzana Hejnova of the Czech Republic wins bronze.

Allyson Felix (21.88) and Carmelita Jeter(22.14) both of the USA win gold and bronze respectively in the women's 200M final. Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce of Jamaica(22.09) wins silver.

Aries Merritt and Jason Richardson, both of the USA, wins gold and silver respectively in the men's 110M hurdles final. Hansle Parchment of Jamaica wins bronze.

The USA women's beach volleyball team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh-Jennings win gold beating the USA team of Jennifer Kessy/April Ross 21-16 and 21-16. Kessy/Ross win silver. Larissa/Juliana of Brazil win bronze.

The USA men's basketball team advances to the semifinals by beating Australia 119-86. Kobe Bryant led team USA with 20 points while Deron Williams had 18.
