Later on today the opening ceremonies will begin so I thought I'd make a few predictions. The USA will lead the medal count but just barely over China and Russia.
The USA will win 95 medals, 32 gold, 34 silver and 29 bronze. China will win 91 medals total and Russia will win 85 medals total.
The smog may take its toll on our athletes, not to mention the withdrawal of USA gymnasts Morgan and Paul Hamm due to injury and USA swimmer Jessica Hardy from doping.
USA track athlete Tyson Gay will not run the 200 because he did not qualify due to injury at the USATF Track trials held in June.
USA swimmer Michael Phelps will win 7 gold and 1 silver medal.
The USA will win the gold in basketball and Misty May and Kerri Walsh will win the gold in beach volleyball. Only 20 hours until the opening ceremonies!!
