In track and field, Bershawn Jackson, Angelo Taylor and Kerron Clement of the USA advance for the finals of the 400m hurdles.

In the women's 100m semifinals, Americans Lauryn Williams, Muna Lee and Torri Edwards advance to the finals.

In the men's 1500m, both Americans Lopez Lamong and Bernard Lagat failed to qualify for the finals.

In the women's 400m, Sanya Richards qualified for the finals, Dee Dee Trotter and Mary Wineberg did not qualify.

In the women's 100m final, Shelly Ann Frasier of Jamaica wins gold in 10.78 seconds and Jamaican's Sherone Stewart and Kerron Stewart tied for silver. The USA's Lauryn Williams finished 4th, American Muna Lee finished 5th and Torri Edwards of the USA finished 8th. There was a controversial false start by Lauryn Williams that was protested because the American's did not get good starts. The protests were rejected.

In the women's 100m hurdles, Americans Lolo Jones, Damu Cherry and Dawn Harper advance to the semifinals.

China's 110 men's hurdler Lui Xiang was injured an dropped out of the Olympics.

In women's gymnastics event finals, American Shawn Johnson wins silver in the floor exercise, Nastia Liukin of the USA wins bronze. Alicia Sacramone finished 4th in the vault.

In men's gymnastics Alexander Artemov finished 7th in the pommel horse. No American men qualified for the event finals in floor exercise.

In women's 3m springboard diving, Americans Nacilea Foster and Christina Loukas finished 8th and 9th, respectively.

In men's swimming, American Michael Phelps wins his 6th gold medal of these games and sets another world record in the 200IM. Ryan Lochte of the USA wins bronze.

In the men's 200 backstroke, American Ryan Lochte wins gold and Aaron Piersol of the USA wins silver.

In the women's 200 breaststroke, Rebecca Soni of the USA wins gold.

In men's swimming, in the 100m freestyle, USA swimmer Jason Lezak wins bronze.

In swimming, in the 4 by 200 freestyle relay the USA wins bronze. Australia wins gold and China wins silver.

In the women's 200 butterfly, USA swimmers Elaine Breeden and Kathleen Hersey finished 7th and 8th respectively.

In men's swimming 200m breaststroke, USA swimmer Scott Spann finished 5th.

In the morning, the USA men's beach volleyball team of Jake Gibb/Sean Rosenthal defeated Brink/Dieckman of Germany 2-0, 21-15 and 21-13.

Also the USA water polo team beat Italy 12-11.

During the evening, I watched women's synchronized 10m platform diving. The USA team of Mary Beth Dunnicky/Haley Ishimatsu finished 5th. China wins gold.

The USA men's beach volleyball team of Phil Dalhausser/Todd Rogers advanced to the round of 16 with a 21-12, 21-13 win over Baracetti/Conde of Argentina.

In men's swimming, Michael Phelps of the USA wins 2 gold medals in the 200 butterfly and 4 by 200 freestyle relay. Both were world records. He has now won 11 gold medals, more than any Olympic athlete in US history.

Also in swimming American Natalie Coughlin wins bronze in the women's 200IM.

Later on in the day, I watched the USA men's beach volleyball team of Phil Dalhausser/Todd Rogers beat Heuscher/Heyer of Switzerland 2-0, 21-15 and 21-10.

The USA women's water polo team defeated China 12-11.

In the evening, I watched the USA men's synchronized 10m diving team of Thomas Finchum and David Boudia finish 5th. Chins wins gold, Germany silver and Russia bronze.

American's Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh defeated Fernandez/Larrea of Cuba 2-0, 21-15 and 21-16 in women's beach volleyball.

In men's swimming, American Michael Phelps sets another world record in winning gold in the 200m freestyle while fellow American Peter Vanderkaay wins bronze.

In the women's 100m backstroke, USA swimmer Natalie Coughlin wins gold, Margaret Hoelzer of the USA wins bronze.

In the men's 100 backstroke, USA swimmer Aaron Peirsol wins gold, Matt Grevers of the USA wins silver.

In the men's gymnastics team final the USA wins bronze, while China wins gold and Japan wins silver. The USA had a chance to win silver but faltered slightly on the pommel horse.

In late night, The USA men's volleyball team beat Venezuela 3-2. The USA team consists of Lloy Ball, David Lee, Reid Priddy, Tom Hoff, Kevin Hansen, Ryan Millar, Riley Salmon, Clay Stanley, Gabe Gardner, Rich Lambourne, Sean Rooney and Scott Touzinsky. The match went until almost 3am.

In the morning, I watched the USA men's basketball team beat Yao Ming and China 101-70. The USA struggled in the first half but led at halftime 49-37.

In the afternoon, I watched the USA men's beach volleyball team of Sean Rosenthal/Jake Gibb beat Boersma/Ronnes of the Netherlands 21-15 and 21-16 in a pouring rain.

In the evening, I watched the USA women's gymnastics team consisting of Shawn Johnson, Bridget Sloan, Samantha Pesek, Alicia Sacramone, Nastia Liukin and Chellcie Memmell perform on the floor exercise, uneven bars, balance beam, and vault. They are currently second behind China. The scoring system has changed so that gymnasts get scores in the 14-16 range.

In women's swimming, Christine Magnuson of the USA wins silver in the 100m butterfly.

Michael Phelps of the USA wins gold as part of the 4 by 100 freestyle relay.

During the evening, I watched the USA men's gymnastics team consisting of Jonathan Horton, Alexander Artemov, Justin Spring, Kevin Tan, Joe Hagerty, and Raj Bhavsar perform in the preliminaries.

The USA women's beach volleyball team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh defeated Kusuhara/Saiki of Japan 21-12 and 21-15.

In men's swimming, American Michael Phelps broke a world record in the 400IM to win gold.

Larsen Jensen of the USA wins bronze in the men's 400 freestyle.

American Katie Hoff wins bronze in the women's 400 IM.
